A soundboard, but you are the speaker

A classic meme soundboard is a grid of buttons. You tap "Vine Boom", the phone goes boom, everyone looks at you. Fun for about four minutes. MimicBox takes the same 424 sounds and flips the deal: the game picks a clip, plays it to the room, and every player has one take to reproduce it with their own mouth. Then it scores how close you got.

The library covers the sounds you already know: "Emotional Damage", "Deez Nuts", "It Is Wednesday My Dudes", "Sheesh", the sad trombone, the Wilhelm scream, the Minecraft villager, "This is Sparta", the Among Us emergency meeting. Except this time hearing them is not the point. Doing them is.

What is in the 424 sounds

Ten packs, each with its own flavor. The meme sounds pack has 174 viral clips from TikTok, Vine, YouTube and Discord. The gaming sounds pack covers Mario, Zelda, Roblox, GTA and more. The movie and TV pack is full of one-liners from Star Wars, Breaking Bad, The Office and Avengers. Then there are animal sounds, musical instruments, everyday noises and a French memes pack for francophone groups.

New sounds are added regularly. If a meme blows up and it is not in the game yet, it will be.

How the scoring actually works

The game compares your recording to the original clip on three axes: the rhythm of the syllables, the melodic contour and the overall length. It does not care about the pitch of your voice or how deep you sound, so a high voice and a low voice can score equally well on the same clip. The result is a number from 0 to 100.

On top of that, every player votes for their favorite impression after each round, and each vote is worth 100 points. The final podium combines both: skill plus popularity. A technically perfect take that nobody finds funny loses to a terrible one that makes the room cry with laughter.

Solo, local or online

Alone? Open solo mode and run through any pack at your own pace. The score still works, so you can grind a sound until you nail it. With friends in the same room, pass the phone around in local mode. With friends anywhere, create a private room, share the five letter code and play from separate devices. Two to six players, no account, no download.

Why it beats a regular soundboard

• A soundboard is a toy. This is a competition. Same sounds, completely different energy.
• You actually learn the sounds. After a few rounds of trying to reproduce the Vine Boom, you will nail it at the dinner table for the rest of your life.
• The playback round, where everyone hears each other's attempts one by one, is where the real laughs happen. A soundboard cannot give you that.
• It runs in the browser, works on any phone or computer, and costs nothing.
